Fun-bike-ridesWe are funding British Cycling to deliver ‘Sky Ride Local‘.  These guided rides for all abilities aim to encourage people to dust off their bikes and get cycling again. Bridgwater is a great place to cycle, and now there are even more chances for everyone to get out and about on bikes.

In the meantime it’s always a good time to ride so as well as cycling to school or work there are opportunities to ride through Social Cycling Groups, just visit and enter ‘Bridgwater’ into the search and it will bring up available rides.

Hamp Residents’ re-design hailed as a great success

colourfulDIY Streets, a project run by Sustrans with Hamp residents, has been celebrated as a huge success by local people. As a community-led design project, it took account of issues that residents care about to change the public space for a stronger sense of community to give a ‘feel-good factor’.  This included slowing traffic, sorting parking issues and improving public space. Members of the community were involved at every stage of the decision making process.

It gave a unique opportunity to local people to have their say on how they wanted their streets to be. This project gave a voice to the residents and helped to create public spaces suitable for people to meet, socialise, and play.  On a long term basis it is hoped that community members will be the people running community-based projects.
